My Story
Hello! My name is Adam Renteria, I am sixteen years old and a sophomore in high school. I have been asked numerous times how I got to where I am today. So, here I will share exactly that. Throughout my life I have struggled with my mental health. I was badly bullied throughout elementary and middle school. From being adopted to being gay people never let me forget that I was the odd one out. In seventh grade I was being sexually abused by a classmate. During that same time my big brother died by suicide. I was a complete wreck. My parents found me a psychiatrist and therapist which helped a lot. I ended up going to a different school for eighth grade. There, I was sent rape threats and was constantly being bullied and inappropriately sexualized by classmates. Towards the end of eighth grade I got placed in a therapeutic private school by my district. There, I had individual therapy once a week and group therapy everyday. While at this school, I learned the importance of mental health resources in a school setting. I saw the real-time benefits of it in myself but also my peers. So, bottom-line, how I got to where I am is because of the mental health resources I had access to. Every kid deserves to have these resources available. Kids also deserve to know that they are not alone in their battles. Through speaking to kids around New Jersey, my goal is to help them understand that too.

More About Me

My Best Friend
Emma
Emma and I met at sleepaway camp in the summer of 2019. She has been my best friend ever since. I could probably make a whole website on our friendship. She is truly a one of a kind person and someone who will ALWAYS have a special place in my heart. There is truly never a dull moment when we are together. Emma never fails to show me what a true friendship looks like.

My Sister
Daphnie
I am adopted. My whole life I've wondered if I'd ever meet one of my biological siblings or someone I am biologically related to. In 2024, I took a DNA test to see if I could find someone. Not too long after, I matched with Daphnie. The shock and excitement that filled my body is a feeling I will never forget. Though we are two years apart and half siblings we look exactly like each other! I am forever grateful I have her in my life.

My Brother
Max
Max is my big brother. Before he passed away, we were not the closest, the age difference followed by the maturity difference made it difficult for us create a closer bond. Though, without a doubt Max never failed to show me that he loved and cared about me. The last thing he texted me was asking if I was okay and how things were going. I know he would be so proud of how far I've come.
